As pediatric cancer treatment has shifted from hospitals into the home, children now spend the majority of their treatment recovering in bedrooms that were never designed to support the physical and emotional realities of prolonged cancer care. Families return home to environments that often depend entirely on financial circumstances, housing conditions, caregiving capacity, and available space.
Designing Dreams exists to bridge that gap, we transform children's bedrooms into treatment-informed healing environments designed to support recovery at home. More than a beautiful bedroom, we create spaces that help children safely heal, rest, recover, and experience the joy of simply being a kid throughout treatment.
Children fighting cancer are immunocompromised, making their home environment an important part of their recovery. Depending on each child's needs, we may replace worn carpeting with easier-to-maintain flooring, improve organization to reduce environmental hazards, and create spaces that better support treatment at home.
Extended treatment often means months to years away from school. We design dedicated spaces that support home-based education, creativity, and age-appropriate development while helping children maintain a sense of normalcy.
Sleep is essential to healing. We create comfortable, accessible sleep environments that promote restorative rest and adapt to each child's medical and physical needs throughout treatment.
Research shows the built environment influences stress, anxiety, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. That's why every treatment-informed healing environment is thoughtfully designed to reduce environmental stress while restoring comfort, dignity, and hope. By incorporating each child's interests, hobbies, favorite colors, and passions, we create spaces that celebrate their identity and remind them they are so much more than their diagnosis.

“The great thing about Designing Dreams is that you can make a tremendous impact on a kid at the worst time in their life. And what’s really cool is we can get our employees involved with the bedroom transformation. We really enjoy giving financially as well as our employees getting out there and being part of the community.”
